Fall Guys devs ask players to be patient as they resolve frustrating matchmaking issues

Mediatonic’s hugely popular game Fall Guys suffered from matchmaking issues as it was added to Xbox, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch as a free game. The company posted a few tweets asking players to be patient while they fixed the issues.

Fall Guys released on Steam and PlayStation in 2020 and has been quite a popular title ever since. The game quickly became the most downloaded PS Plus title of all time and had already sold 11 million copies on PC by the end of 2020, according to Mediatonic. But gamers on Xbox and other devices were still clamoring for the game to be released on other platforms as well. Now players can also download the game (for free) from Xbox, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch. But if you do, you might run into issues with matchmaking.

The Fall Guys Twitter account posted an apology yesterday regarding the issues players were having. The tweet asked for the players’ continued patience as the team worked to clean up the icing that had dried out and the ants that were supposed to eat the dried icing, but in turn made the problem worse.

Later that day, the team posted on Twitter that the issue appeared to be improving, but they were still working to resolve the issues online. “Okay so I got some frosting, got ants… Let’s say 54% frosting and 44% ants,” according to the tweet. As the servers began to improve, the team reminded players that with the “bajillion” of them trying to play, startup issues would occur.

Mediatonic’s parent company, Tonic Games Group, was acquired by the Epic Games Store for an undisclosed sum last year. While the game was supposed to be released on the other platforms last year, it was delayed so the developers could work on implementing new features, such as cross-platform play. The game now supports cross-platform and cross-progression on all platforms.

With the game made free on new platforms, it’s also free on Steam. But don’t worry if you purchased the game on Steam, it will continue to have full support. Those who already owned the game before the move to make it free should look for a free Legacy Pack to coincide with the game also going free. It’s said to include three costumes and access to the new Season 1 premium season pass.
